Law Lord lambasts Strasbourg

One of the country's most senior judges has criticised the European Court of Human Rights, in a lecture to the Judicial Studies Board.

Pointing to the democratic deficit involved in judicial legislation from Strasbourg, Lord Hoffman makes an important distinction between the European Convention of Human Rights (which he supports) and caselaw from Strasbourg which, he says, gives rise to real concerns.
