Independent Retailer Month

The Federation of Small Businesses are promoting Independent Retailer Month, including by getting MPs to spend some time in stores on the high street.

So, on Friday, I joined in at Trew Art and RTFact - both on Claygate parade - to hear how their businesses are getting on, and to get some feedback on the pressures facing retailers on the high street. Trew Art is a terrific local gallery/ art shop, run by June Trew (pictured below), exhibiting a range of amazing local and national artwork (including some very interesting pieces by Rolf Harris!). RTFact is a store down the road, run by Dawn Smith, specialising in spectacular artificial flower arrangements. RTFact has also been exhibiting at Hampton Court Flower Show.

We are lucky to have such a diverse range of retail businesses in Elmbridge, and - especially in places like Claygate - they are vital not just as the local economic lifeblood, but also in helping to define the character and identity of the village. It is important to support them!

Great to have your support Dom! The FSB have been fantastic in helping us "activate" the campaign at a local level as we're only able to do so much centrally!
We have some exciting plans for an "indie xmas" too, so more reasons for shoppers to spend time investigating the fantastic independent retailers right on their doorsteps!
