Flood Risk
Today, I am leading a cross-party backbench debate in the House of Commons on flood risk and flood insurance. The government and the insurance industry have until the end of June to agree a new 'deal' to ensure flood insurance is available to small businesses and families owning properties at high risk of flooding. This issue affects us locally in Elmbridge, but has wider implications for national policy as well.
The debate also shines a light on the direction of UK environmemtal policy - and the balance between reducing emissions and adapting to climate change. I wrote an article for Politics Home on the issue here.
