Walton Bridge Opens
Today, I joined the Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond, Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander, and various local civic leaders to open the new Walton Bridge.
It is tremendous that, at such difficult financial times, we are getting this infrastructure investment. The new bridge will carry 30,000 vehicles each day, a major local artery for businesses, shoppers and parents taking children to school. It cost £32million, was built by Costain, and is essential for boosting local economic growth. The new bridge replaces two temporary bridges, and will also open up the views of the river for those on boats passing through, and create easier access for cyclists and pedestrians. It will be open for use on 22 July.
