Flying the Nest at Walton Oak School
Today, I droped in on Walton Oak primary school in Walton, to celebrate the first anniversary of the Nest, a wonderful facility that gives support to those young children who need a bit of extra help to strengthen their social skills - so they can thrive in the classroom.
These children visit Nest daily where they each take some responsibility for preparing brunch, learn about healthy eating, get help with numeracy and literacy, collaborate on group exercises - for example, recently building a scarecrow - and ultimately return to their normal classes with greater confidence, stronger communication skills and improved ability to interact with other children. The Nest is a really great credit to the school.
