Helping People Help Themselves
Yesterday, I joined Walton housing charity - formerly Surrey Development Community Trust, now Transform - to celebrate their re-launch. The charity helps 1,100 people every year, by providing accommodation and support to homeless and vulnerable people across Surrey, Sutton and Wokingham. Transform staff work alongside clients on a one-to-one basis, helping them build up their skills and confidence so they prepare to support themselves.
I have got to know their Chair, Elizabeth Kennedy, Chief Executive, Paul Kennedy, the Transorm team and some of their clients over the last year or so (see below). Transform does an impressive job, helping those who are vulnerable or who have hit rock bottom, and getting them back on their feet and living independent lives.
