Walton Charity - 800 Years Old !!!
This year, the fantastic Walton Charity celebrates its 800th anniversary. I joined them this evening for their first event to mark the anniversary, an exhibition celebrating the history of the charity.
The exhibition told the story of Walton Charity dating back through - and well beyond - the era of the Elizabethan Poor Law. The charity originated from a royal grant of land offered to tenants on condition that they administered bread and ale to the poor.
The exhibition takes you through the history with an excellent mix of information and illustration - as pictured below, in front of a replica of one of the old ale barrels with exhibition designer Simon Dray. The exhibition is running at the Riverhouse on Manor Road in Walton. For more information on the charity's history, click here.
