Today, I opened Claygate Martial Arts Centre. It has been set up by James and Vicky Barker, two local instructors - a husband and wife partnership. The club has a wide range of students of all ages - boys, girls, men and women. I have enjoyed martial arts since the age of twelve, and recognise what fantastic physical and mental discipline it can instil in youngsters. The black belts put on a fabulous demo for us today. Jan Fuller from Elmbridge Borough Council and Rebecca North from Barclays (who are backing the business) came down to support the club's launch. I wish them all the best of luck - I am sure it will be a great local success.
