Walton Oak Shines
Last week, I had the privilege of joining Walton Oak primary school for their Graduation Ceremony. Led by the brilliant Mandy Watts and her dedicated team of teachers, the school is definitely on the up. On top of raising the Ofsted standard to Good - at a time when the inspection regime has got tougher - this year the school achieved its best ever SATs results at Year 6.
Ofsted also singled out the school's Governors for praise, and there is plenty of support at the school for working parents. The Acorns club provides support pre-school, after school and during the holidays, while the Inspire scheme supports parents continuing their children's learning at home.
It's not just about teaching standards. The school prides itself on the six values of: respect, responsibility, endeavour, consideration, positivity and trust. Through the House captaincy system, the Pupil Parliament and their efforts to raise money for charity, the school instils confidence and a sense of responsibility in their children. They are certainly a sparky lot, and it was a great pleasure to join them for their graduation ceremony. I handed out the special attainment awards to Sam Barrett and Thomas Cridland for their outstanding results this year (as pictured below).
