Aspirational Local Schools
Burhill Infant Community School is one of three local schools given the green light to expand around a year ago. This is critical to providing extra places to deal with rising demand, in order to meet changing local demographics (ie a spike in fertility rates). Burhill will expand from an infant to a junior school - providing extra places and wider choice for parents in the Hersham/ Walton area.
I am delighted that concrete steps are being taken to alleviate the rising demand for school places, and have long been a big fan of Burhill. It always has a wonderful atmosphere when I visit - a mixture of endeavour, curiosity and fun. The school is a great tribute to all the teachers, and headteacher Annette Calver in particular.
Today, I visited the school to see how the plans are shaping up. The builders are on site and getting cracking. The expansion matches the school's ambitions, and I look forward to returning to see it completed.
